Assistant Preachers Of...

Lately, a lot of people have been asking me to comment on the new show on TV called Preachers of L.A.  At first I didn't understand why it was causing such an uproar since I had not seen the program. But then I noticed it became the negative subject matter of almost every preacher around the country. So I decided to take a look at the back episodes to see what the concern might be. After Jess and I watched three episodes, I finally began to see.  Unfortunately,..
I didn't agree with all the negative press. In fact, what I saw was not negative and quite frankly not surprising.  I was just not sure what everyone was concerned about. Could it be that people do not believe some preachers are like them or were they concerned about the things they were challenged by was not "holy" enough? I just didn't get it. So instead of harping on the negativity of the mob and analyze their faith journey, I decided to create my own show called The Assistant Pastors of Houston (no funding has come in yet. LOL) On my show instead of highlighting the bling, we would reveal the bills we have to pay monthly that we ask God to show us how to pay. We would also show how after spending hours in prayer and study, we secretly enjoy watching "Scandal" every Thursday night to get mad at the fake POTUS. We definitely would talk about how silly we feel on stage when we preach and often ask ourselves while preaching "Did we really just say that?". On one or two episodes we would have a meetings with the spouses of the preachers that are married and they would talk about how we get on their nerves just before we have to preach because we are nerved up and right after we are done because we are too tired to do anything else.  Don't believe me? Check out Jessica's blog @ JessInTime. The single preachers would gripe about every date turning into a counseling session or a marriage interview

Here is my point. The next time you watch a show that you don't agree with just turn it off or create your own show that highlights your truth. My good friend, who works as a sanitation worker, a loving husband and father of three small children is doing a show called the "Real Garbage of Atlanta" and one of the episodes will have his children ask him if he is the boogie man because they only see him when it's dark.  Why? Because in order to feed his family he has to wake up before daybreak and kiss his kids before going to work and comes home late at night when they are already tucked in. Now that some "Real Preaching"right there!!!!

  1. I couldn't agree more with you on the show. I am fortunate to have grown up in a church where real was real. I am blessed to have worked there to see that it's real work running a church. Let me ponder on my own show....this woman has a story to tell too. Perhaps, The Supportive Young Wife, What for better or worse really looks like.
