I had an incredible time
tonight! Though I was away from my immediate family, I was with my new family
and it was such a life giving time for me. With all the transitions taking
place
in our lives, it was important for me to have us reconnect with people
who loved and accepted us unconditionally. Now don’t get me wrong. God has blessed
both of us with friends who embrace us with all of our quirkiness, but they are
people we chose to make our friends because they are as “throwed off” as we
are. LOL. With family it is different. Family members are people who you are
connected to whether you like them or not. Unfortunately for many of my
friends, family is not a source of comfort and care but a title given to
persons who have caused them pain. One friend shared with me that they
purposely plan trips out of the country because the thought of spending
thanksgiving with their family is sometimes more than they can handle. But that
is not true of our family. God has blessed us with family that is as
interesting as they are beautiful and as different as they are the same and
along with their unconditional love, they offer unapologetic acceptance and
sincere hope for our future.
Take some time and read
Jess’s blogJessInTime to hear about how much she loves her family and how much her family
loves her. Her family also reminds me of my family growing up in so many ways. We
both have family that have traveled the world and some who have never left the
block. Some who have fought for justice and others who have had laws created
because of their indiscretions. LOL. But no matter where life’s journey has
taken us, we take time to love each other, pray for each other, and wish only
the best that God has for us all. I love Thanksgiving! What better time to
celebrate family and commitment than during the season of Thanks?
So here we are, packed
together in an intimate sized living room, sharing tales of the past and stories
of the present. We laughed, we played,
and we loved and through it all we shared and showed each other the true
meaning of giving thanks.
